My best friend has had a rough year. She lost her husband about six months ago, and is now somewhat superstitious. When she realized their ages were multiples of 11 she counted how many dragonflies she has tattooed on her body. (She has become obsessed with dragonflies since the death of her husband.) To her surprise, there were 11 dragonflies. She asked me if I had heard anything about the number 11 or multiples of 11. early last week I visited a certain Jewelry store in town w/ my mom. I decided on a diamond and the engagement ring. I told the guy I would come back on Saturday to purchase it and asked him if I needed to put anything down to hold it. He told me that I did not need to put any money down and shook my hand and told me that my handshake is worth money. Well when I came back on Saturday to purchase the engagement ring I found out the diamond was sold (but the engagement band he still hand). He said he needed to order me another diamond (same quality, etc.) but it would take 2 weeks. I left the store again shaking his hand and telling him I cant wait to get the diamond and purchase it from you. Should I buy it from this guy or just go some place else because this is no way of doing business. Anyone else been in this kind of situation?

my project is to write a legend to teach the vaisya cast about how it should live and act in indian society.
what im thinking of doing is having a young confused boy who doesnt want to be a vaisya but a brahman. the story has to have a conflict, and that would then be the conflict because if you're family is a certain caste you HAVE to be that caste otherwise your moved down to the untouchables caste. i just need some help with how i should end it and why this character doesn't want to be part of the vaisya.
ill take any ideas really, just keep them comming =)

any rational logical argument that supports the detailed Christian theology (the Son, heaven, hell, etc) it describes.

Those pre-science people knew very little about the human body, the solar system, electricity, etc,etc. , yet they claim to
know all about something much more hidden (theology).

When people today preach this ancient theology as fact, does it in effect make the Bible appear rediculous??

Also are educated people today, who know many awsome details of both biology and the universe, betterable to speculate about "God".??

Is the purpose of religion to help people feel better about themselves and life, rather than preach "truth"?? (That is a worthwhile purpose)

hello, I have an Xbox 360 and it is about a year old. I have an original xbox game called Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, which is back compatible with Xbox 360 and I have played it many times before. I hadn't played it in a while, and a couple of days ago I put the game in and it would load to the Xbox logo and then just stop. I waited for about 5-10 minutes to see if it would load but it just stayed the same. So, pressed the eject button and when I did so, a message came up asking if I would like to apply an update from Xbox live for the game. This was odd, since I was not signed into my xbox live profile but rather my regular one. So I applied the update and it updated but then it just froze on a black screen when it was done. I tried rebooting the xbox but it just froze on the logo once again, and when I ejected it, the same message asking if I wanted to update popped up again. I have tried repeatedly to get this to work, and all my other games work, so I am very confused. PLEASE HELP

It seems patently obvious to me that the universe and life itself is the result of an intelligent agency. I would conjecture that this should be so to most truly rational and logical individuals.

The idea that blind causation and unintelligent processes can lead to the organic complexity and harmony that we see in the world is just nonsensical. Using semantics like "natural selection" to account for it is just a cop-out.

So will cosmological and biological evolutionary theories eventually have to recognize an "intelligent principle" at work in the universe, if not a Divine Being?

Or will Science persist in trying to explain the inexplicable?

I would think yes, because America would be selling a lot of items, whereas Canada would be stuck with all their stock collecting dust in their retail stores.
Plus, everyone outside America buying from America and having the return to their homes past the American border would have to pay customs tax on every purchase they buy.

Oh Lord, what is there to be said about the people who understand the glory of the self-sacrifice of meting the most powerful evils head-on.

The way to honor our vets isn’t by paying lip service to their heroism on a holiday, but rather to support them in the battles that they, sadly, all to often face alone in the long-term consequences of their service.

My father served in Vietnam (as a Huey engine mechanic, 66-68 just before they started using Agent Orange ), and I remember growing up in the eighties hearing all those stories about military denial on the effects of Agent Orange.

It seems that since then, the generals have gotten more sophisticated about how to side-step controversy/responsibility (with regards to ill effects of our weaponry) in how they cover up the new health-threatening agent; DU (Depleted Uranium) from “Gulf war syndrome”.

“Gulf war syndrome” is even re-occurring in today’s Iraq theater (operation Iraqi Freedom) where DU rounds are used.

It seems that the generals now understand that even acknowledging in anyway the toxicity of DU (even to the point of NOT training our Soldiers/Marines to take precautions from DU contamination), will have liability repercussions.

One has to wonder, why not just admit that DU contamination causes “Gulf War Syndrome” (instead of blaming it all on the Soldier/Marine him/herself as “Post Traumatic Stress Disorder”)?

Question:

1) Is it because the generals fear that care for the afflicted veterans will come at the expense of their big-toy budgets?

2) Is a group of generals afraid that they are going to get demoted? Do they reason that by the time long-term effect from DU contamination are apparent, the Soldier has already left the military and so the moral link between the military and the soldier has been dissolved (by virtue of his/her leaving the military)?

Most importantly:
3) What can we do, as civilians, to make sure that our generals do the right thing by our fathers, sons and brothers in uniform?

Anyone with enough ba**s to question the link the Veterans have drawn between DU use and Gulf-war syndrome can take up the issue with the Veterans themselves:
